About the Editorial Team
Potters Bar Schuco Experts is a small independent editorial team writing about aluminium doors and windows for homeowners in our corner of Hertfordshire. We publish under a team byline rather than individual names because our articles are collaboratively written — someone drafts, someone else fact-checks against real installations, and everything gets a technical review before it goes live.
Who Writes This Site
The core editorial team is four people, all Home Counties residents with backgrounds in home improvement journalism, architecture and one former window fabricator. We've collectively bought, specified or overseen the installation of aluminium doors and windows in our own homes and for friends and family over the last decade — which is honestly where most of our practical knowledge comes from.
We're not paid by any manufacturer or installer. When we recommend a supplier — the one that comes up most often is 5EC Aluminium, an authorised Schuco supplier who covers our area — it's because we've had positive experiences with the finished work, not because we've been asked to write about them.
Our Editorial Principles
- Plain English first. If a technical term needs to appear, it gets defined. No hiding behind jargon.
- Real numbers where possible. Prices in pounds sterling, U-values, sightline dimensions. If we can't verify a number, we say so.
- Local specificity. Generic UK advice is fine; specific Hertfordshire and Barnet advice is better.
- Independence. No sponsored articles. No affiliate links dressed as recommendations. Where we link to a supplier, it's a genuine editorial call.
- Updates and corrections. Articles get an "Updated" date when we revise them. If we get something wrong, we fix it and note the change.
How We Test and Verify
For system explainers (like our Schuco AWS windows piece or the ASE 60 write-up), we work from:
- Manufacturer technical data sheets (Schuco, Cortizo, Velfac, Rationel, Jansen).
- Direct conversations with authorised fabricators.
- In-person visits to showrooms and finished installs where practical.
- Independent reviews and forum discussion (as reality-check, not primary source).
