Cortizo vs Schuco: Which Premium Aluminium System is Right for You?

If you've asked around for a premium aluminium sliding door quote in Hertfordshire in the last two years, you've almost certainly had one company push Schuco and another push Cortizo. Both are excellent. Both cost real money. So which is actually right for your project?

We've had both systems installed on test properties, walked around a lot of finished jobs, and this is our neutral take.

The Brands in One Sentence Each

Schuco — German, huge global range, strongest network of UK fabricators, mature after-sales.
Cortizo — Spanish, faster to bring genuinely innovative slim-sightline sliders to market, growing UK network.

Neither is "better". They compete at the same level and have different personalities.

Sightlines: Where Cortizo Historically Won

The Cortizo Cor Vision Plus with its 20 mm interlock is one of the slimmest aluminium sliders on the market. If minimal frame is your top priority, it's very hard to beat. Schuco's ASE 60 has a wider interlock and reads chunkier next to it, though ASE 80.HI closes the gap.

That said — be honest with yourself about whether you'll actually notice the difference from your kitchen table. On installations we've compared side by side, most homeowners struggle to spot the interlock width difference without being told.

Thermals: Effectively a Tie

Both systems hit competitive Uw values with proper glass. In real-world specs for a domestic rear extension you're looking at 1.2–1.5 for either. If you're seriously chasing lower than 1.0, you're going to be in the top-end panels of either range and the price gap between them narrows.

Installer Network: Where Schuco Wins Right Now

Schuco has been in the UK longer. More authorised fabricators, more experienced installers, and (importantly) more independent Schuco repair engineers if something goes wrong five years down the line. Cortizo's UK network is growing fast but isn't at Schuco density yet, particularly outside London and the immediate M25 belt.

Practical tip: Before committing to either brand, ask three local installers if they'll service the system in 10 years. Written answers, not verbal.

Pricing: Genuinely Similar

You'll get slightly different numbers depending on installer margins and current promotions, but on a like-for-like 4-metre sliding door in a mid-range spec, Cortizo and Schuco quotes typically land within £500–£1,500 of each other. Neither is meaningfully "the cheap one".

Which Should You Pick?

Rough shorthand:

Pick Schuco if: you value long-term serviceability, wide installer network, and a slightly more "engineered" feel.
Pick Cortizo if: your priority is slimmest possible sightlines and design-led detailing.
It doesn't matter much if: you're doing a straightforward 3-panel slider and picking one of the mid-range products — both will make you happy for 25 years.
